My 8 yr old IDQ10dvc finnaly has gone to a better place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif I have a Type-R 12 (swr-1242d) that I picked up awhile back. I loved the sound of my IDQ in a small sealed encloser and it was'nt over powering.

I plan on buying a different woofer in the future, but for now I plan to use the Type-r. I will be using my Alpine MRD-M1001 for power. I don't want bass that is loud and boomy, nor do I wan't my trunk lid to rattle.

I have been using WinISD to model some vented enclosure ideas and what I came up with was a vented enclosure of 1.7cu_ft tuned to 22hz. this provided a nice arc similar to a sealed encloser with 30hz at -3db.

My original plan was to use it in a sealed enclosure but when I do a search for "Type-r 12 sealed" everyone says they didn't like it in a sealed enclosure. Why ?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

So my questions are this.

: How does the Type-r 12 sound in a sealed encloser ( about 1.6cu ft) ?

: If I build a vented enclosure of 1.7cu ft.I is tuning to 22hz to low ?

All comments appreciated .

22 hz is way too low for a 12 I'd shoot for 32-35 hz

30-32 for me!

also, 1.6 sealed is pretty big. In all of my experiences, they lacked output when sealed but they didn't sound bad.

You're not going to know until you test with a meter. Typically even carpeting a box as opposed to painting is going to lose a few tenths.

These are decent budget subs. The box design isn’t bad at 5 cubes for these, but I’d drop it down just a little and raise port tuning up to 32...
