does it really damage amps mounting them to boxes

Okay, first of all... car amplifiers are designed and manufactured knowing they're going in a harsh environment. Why would they design and advertise (as well as them becoming popular) something that wasn't built to withstand the vibrations and conditions of every day driving...?
I strongly disagree and if you ever rebuilt an amp you'd know why. If the board vibrates enough to crack the solder joints, the amp will either shut off or blow up depending on what broke and what broke where. A part, solder, or anything metallic that comes all off the board and contacts across a fet will smoke your power supply in a second.

yes i see your point, but how come I have seen amps fall apart for being mounted to the box or in a inferior place with lots of vibrations and they were not cheap amplifiers ?
You're exaggerating. I can see a screw coming loose over time, but you're telling me electrical connections have been broken, plastic components have cracked, and metal has been warped due to it being placed on the subwoofer box? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

If my amp breaks from vibrations and Best Buy installed it, does warranty cover it:confused:

What ? where did you see me say this ?????//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif...lol

I've seen it happen more than once.
unless you have been able to do this side by side with same exact build quality and components mounted in different places in the vehicle i am not convinced. i have had the same amp mounted in the same place for 2 years and have had no problems... i am sure this does occur, but i don't think that there is a magical location that can prevent it from happening. and if there is a location, please tell us all where and why...

I think it's probably going to be a "try your hardest to find the least effected place" and mount there.

No magic. Just logic. Or something...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I did not say that there's a magical place to mount your amp...lol. I just stated that mounting a amp to the sub box is an inferior place, in my prospective.

Well everyone tried quite hard in this thread, good conversation.

But we can't come to a definitive answer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So. Someone call it.

It could effect it. Seems to be the answer.

yes, agreed, but i am just trying to show that in your average car, WITH A BOX FIXED TO THE FRAME SOMEHOW, it will vibrate at a pretty even level throughout the car. being afraid to mount an amp in any location is a little silly... and furthermore, try opening an amp and pulling something off the board with your hand, you will find that it will take more force than your average 60-20 htz vibrationd that a sub at 140-145 dbz will produce...

They should cover it. They would probably pull some BS and blame it on something else. I never mount any of my amps to a box and I'd try to not do it no matter what.

so the box vibrates more than any other place in the car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif why do rearview mirrors fall off before losely fastened components in the trunk in most cases?

Meh, I'm an installer...
Had 100's upon 100's of amplifiers mounted to enclosure... including some in my own vehicles. Never any problems.

Final word //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
