Does HiFonics over rate their amps? I'm interested in their Brutus BX1500 or a JBL BP1200. I know JBL's are under rated... On HiFonics' website it says 1500w rms into 1ohm. SD's says it puts out 450w rms into 4ohms & 900w rms into 2ohms, so it's actually 1350w rms into 1ohm??? So is JBL's 1200 actually more powerful?

No....amps don't always add the exact same amount of wattage as you drop the ohms....the JBL does 600 @ 4, 1200 @ 2, so by your theory it would be 1800 @ 1. The Crossfire VR1000D does 250 @ 4, and 500 @ 2. By your theory, it would do 750 @ 1, but it does 1000 @ 1. The DEI 1100d does 425 @ 4, 800 @ 2, and 1100 @ 1. I could go on and on....

I thought the JBL put out the same poewr a 1 as it did in 2. It is just stable at 1.

Anyway, I have the HiFonics 1500D and I love it. It puts out good power. I am running it in 2ohms except when I compete and I take it down to 1ohm. It's a very good amp and you will not be dissapointed.

The BX1500D actually will put out closer to 1600w @ 1 ohm stable...

No the readings are not different. The 2003 model has slightly higher wattages than the older model. Also, I'm pretty sure they both say 450w @ 4, 900 @ 2, and 1500 @ 1 ohm...
