Ok. i have the alpine mrv-f545, i like it a lot. i just went ahead and used my 8ga wiring from my last 4 channel amp. When the amp is on i get 13.2V on the display.

which i think is decent cosidering i have a civic. i have blown 50amp fuses.

Is my amp wanting more?

is upgrading to 4 ga. worth it with my car, since the alt. is small?

will a 4ga give it more amps?

will it sound better? better S/N (even though its good)?

thanks

Just use 18 gauge, it'll smoke a little but that just means its "breaking in".

Seriously, whats the rms ratings for that amp and what does it have for onboard fuses.

well if your amp draws enought current it will proceed to melt the plastic coat on your power wire and cause an electrical short on your car now your honda ECU wont like that at all so go to town and get the 4awg wire and be safe. nobody likes electrical fires.

I'm running around 1.7kW off of 2awg, and that's about the most I'd comfortably do. I've got a 200A fuse underneath the hood.

1/0ga for 1.8kW should be fine, unless you're running very inefficient amplifiers.

You're not going to know until you test with a meter. Typically even carpeting a box as opposed to painting is going to lose a few tenths.
