The word elitist comes to mind. Metal is metal. No matter how terrible or mainstream one may think some of those bands are, they're still metal.

As for not as mainstream but not as underground as others,

Wow, to say that some bands who helped pioneer metal AREN'T? Pure ignorance. Just because they don't play as fast or as "technical" as some of todays bands. IMO a lot of these new bands try TOO HARD to sound "technical".

Between the Buried and Me come to mind with that last sentence.

They have a lot of talent. Their songs go nowhere, or really move. Their lyrics could be amazing, if you could understand them. They need to focus on songwriting as opposed to implementing as many styles and such in one song.

And here's an easy way to classify metal.

Metal. That's it.

But the double bass isn't that impressive and the guitar riffs are simple for people to play now.

I saw them live in atlantic city, they were ok, sevendust was waaay better, and they were the opening act, i just cant get into the stage gimmick of dressing up for halloween( mudvayne and slipknot)

i have to agree. also, i love the invention of the new word. that shit's bad. im gonna use it from now on.

i hate how people argue over classifying music. they don't see it as music. it's all music. from barry white, to eminem, to mudvayne, to as i lay dying, and everything in between. people should do more productive things with their lives. as for me, i like anything from d12, old godsmack, offspring, as i lay dying, 50 cent, blink 182, everything.

Slipknot is eh, but Mudvayne is amazing. LD 50 is an awesome album. They are amazing musicians. Especially the bassplayer, his bassliner are insane.
