Since 2005, and none of that is metal to me. NONE of those bands have the musical talent that bands today have. I wasn't even born when Black came out. I don't like Metallica, or pretty much anything before the year 2000 honestly. Old metal sux, thats why i don't consider it to be "real" metal.

You really are a dumbass... Those bands he listed are what Metal is. There wouldn't be any of your metalcore, or deathcore that you like without them.

TO OP- Metalcore, grindcore, screamo, Nu-metal, and any other random mix of GARBAGE isn't METAL.
THIS is METAL.

If you think that just because a bunch of emo kids go on a stage , pound on their instruments and scream uncontrolably is METAL, you need to get a life. what you listen to isnt METAL. it is HARCORE or EMO crap[iMHO] ive only been able to listen to a few of those bands, war of ages being one of them because they have played here in erie a few times. Jesus Wept is another good hardcore band.

Chevelle, Disturbed, Adems, Stone Sour???? Definitely not metal at all. Hell slipknot is nu-metal and Stone Sour is a "softer" version.

Start with Colors. If you don't like that album, you probably won't like any of the earlier stuff (although I think those albums are pretty good in their own right).

I've listened to them more. I got past the vocals. Pretty much, I want to like them, but don't. My two other friends explained it the same way I felt. Extremely ****ing talented, just can't get that feel down. I'll keep my eye on them though. They have their own sound and style, which is why I can't hate or dislike them. Thanks for listening order suggestion.

seems the metal scene has broken the family tree into so many branches with : hardcore, metalcore, doom, melodic, black, death, gore etc. that everyone has their own little opinion on who is "more metal". It's all in what ya like. Heaviness is a matter of the ambiance that the music can create whether it is slow as molasses(as was said) or wide open thrash. there's some of the slower more progressive songs by opeth or my dying bride that just crush others due to the mood it can create. i personally am just a metalhead at heart. i'll listen to slipknot and mudvayne just as much as i will to gorgorath and belphegor or to black sabbath and led zeppelin. to me they all have a place in metal.
