Does adding more subs make it louder?

First, stick with one size unless you're ready for tuning headaches. It can be done though. What kind of car is this in? It mostly depends on space but too many factors that make it louder or not.

i think its like 3db every extra sub... hence why people can get high numbers with 1 sub and someone with 5 subs gets around the same numbers.... there are so many factors that play into loudness though....

Close. Two subs will be approximately 3dB louder than one sub on the same power. From there, it's not a linear progression. And, yes, so many more factors are at play here. What vehicle it goes into, how efficient the enclosure, and what level of deadener you use or don't use will all affect loudness more significantly than just how many drivers you're running.

I have a chevy Tahoe.
Prefab box or custom?

What kind of deadener if any?

How much space you willing to sacrifice?

How much power/What amps are you running?

Which headunit?

Big 3?

Alternator?

Battery(s)?

Size of wire?

Brand/Model of woofers?

What's the goal of this system?

Some basic questions we'll need answered to help

Box- Custom Tobey speakers

Deadner-None yet

Area- Enitre storage area of tahoe

Amp- Kicker zxs 1000.1 per sub/box

HU- Kenwood

Big 3- Yes 1/0 gauge

Battery- Stock

Wire- 1/0 gauge

Woofer- Custom Toby

Goal- Loud and clear as possible

I'd stick with all 15" subs seeing as you have the space... Sounds like you are looking for SQL. Have a ported box made (or designed then build it yourself, depending on how handy you are) to the specs of the subs, depending on the subs a 4th order might work well, too.

WIth the amount of cone area you have... sell the 12's, get some 15's. Get some blueprints for a basic ported box for them. If you want to go all out, you can seal it off and go crazy. But I'd just feed them some good power, make sure voltage is up and then get a proper box with 4 15's in it.

What's the voltage sitting at currently with the system full tilt?

Okay after some research both of my current subwoofers are 5th order setups.

Yeah I'm not the guy to ask about enclosures, I'm just making general suggestions. @Buck ; sells designs for boxes and also builds them, he'd be able to help you better than myself.

If you're just throwing more prefab boxes in the back of your truck you most likely will not get any very noticeable gains from that. Definitely not worth the money you're probably sinking into the whole project.

Not sure what you're looking to spend buy you may well have better options.

whats a toby speaker?
Google will reward you there. By the looks of it, they make some nice car and home cabinets. My guess is they source drivers from PE and or Madisound and a couple of their projects look similar to things I've seen online in public domain. The "Pluto" I think they called it? The 6" woofer in a tube with the 2" aura driver in a piece of curved PVC pipe for one.

They certainly build a nice looking cabinet anyway. It's anyone's guess what they use for a driver in their subwoofer systems, likely nothing particularly great.
