does a crossover get hot?

Im in the process of installing infinity 10.9t tweeters in the stock location on my car. However, the supplied crossover is too big to fit through the opening in the dash. There is no other way to get the crossover in there. The only way i was able to make it fit was buy removing the plastic case around the crossover and sliding the circuit board through the opening. Right now its just resting on a panel in there and not attached to anything. The wire is very short from the crossover to the tweeter so there is very little movement if any.

Do these things get hot to the point of melting something? Or is the case just to make it look pretty?
