and i didnt do the ground from the block the to frame, just from the battery to the frame. will that make a difference?

But the fuse is there to protect the battery from blowing the hell up. So yes, it is definitely recommended to put a fuse in there just in case.

These are the recommended maximum fuse ratings for the corresponding wire size. Using a smaller fuse than what's recommended here will be perfectly safe.
