Do you feel safer with a gun, or without?

People hesitate to use buckshot in their house because it can easily penetrate walls and possibly kill or injure someone on the other side that the shooter isn't aware is there. If you live in a house or apartment with several family members or close neighbors, it is a valid issue.

X2 a light birdshot would still be effective at close range and I doubt it would penetrate a wall.

I doubt I will get a CCL but I always have a gun in my home. Im wanting to get a shotgun for home defense bad. But untill then I still have the AK. I also read an article debating the use of shotguns compared to a small handgun. One of the downfalls expressed with a shotgun was the ability to round corners without being seen first. Even with a 16 inch barrel its hard to do. Using a small handgun held close to the body you can round corners easier.

thanks, did they test a shotgun? (if they mentioned it I missed it)
Didn't mean to repeat whay you posted earlier, I just missed it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

I know box of truth did some testing with a 20 gauge, I'll try and look it up.

Here's a link to a good article on home defense shotgun loads. Kind of dry reading but some good info.

Of course I can't say anything. If my neighbors came through a window or door at night, my dogs would kill them just the same. Actually most likely worse LOL..they would maul him/her but not kill them and I would get sued. *ponders* maybe I need a gun? LOL
Ive only read up to page 2 so far, but really.... how can dogs kill someone? I have a very aggressive chow and while she can hurt me bad I can usually kick her *** in a wrestling match. She did get me pretty good in the face though, my eye was bleeding. But to change the subject a little to include guns, what if a criminal had a knife and was stabbing your attacking dogs with it? Wouldnt you want a gun as backup to save their lives and possibly yours?

Oh yes, dogs can kill you more easily than you think. After seeing my buddies 75lb pitbull tear into another dog, and having it take 3, 200lb men 5 minutes to pull them apart and break her grip. I know now that if this dog attacked me while I was alone I would be in trouble. Unless I had a knife on me, or could choke the dog out, it is very possible I might be killed. I'm 6'0 200lbs.

How many yards was the deer?? And I dont doubt it one bit.. With my 3 1/2" Mossy 835 shooting Hevi 13 #4s and a Xtra Full choke it throws one hellacious of a pattern out to 60 yards.. Dropped a turk at 65 yards with it.. And keep in mind guys, you aim at the head of a turkey... I could easily seee shooting a deer in the head at 40 yards with this setup and it dieing quickly.. That would be approx 120

+ #4 pellets with the equivalent energy of number 2-3 lead in a 10" circle..

Dont forget, in home your talking distances usually well under 5 yards. #4 buck will turn a person into raw meat at close range. Your talking anywere from 30-40 .22 cal balls in 1 shot.

I used to work in East Oakland (nights as well) and I have never felt a need to carry a weapon. At home there is a 12ga under my wifes side of the bed and she has been trained on close quarters personal defense. The only reason we have taken those precautions is because I travel a lot for business which means my wife spends a lot of time home alone.

That being said choose your home defense weapon carefully. Most people want a slick looking semi-auto handgun....bad choice. Statistics show that 100% of the time the first shot in a home invasion scenario will miss. Now, if you are hurried a high percentage of the time a semi-auto weapon will jam especially with women. A semi-auto weapon needs a solid stable base for the knetic energy to allow the slide to reset the action...when hurried this often does not happen. Your best choices are either a revolver or shotgun. Shotguns work well because you don't have to aim, you just point and they are incredibly intimidating. Stand in a dark room and cycle the action on a pump shotgun and you'll understand what I mean.
