I believe in God, Jesus, and that they are our creators and our saviors. I know everyone sees all those people in church that do all those terrible things throughout the week and then "pretend" to ask for forgiveness but the fact is that everyone in that church isnt like that. I'm not saying everyone in the church is perfect by any means. The only difference between a Christian and a non-Christian is the fact that when a Christian messes up, its erased through salvation and prayer. And FYI, you dont have to go to church to be a Christian, although it makes sense to.

noo..... it gets "erased" through salvation alone. you dont have to pray and ask forgiveness for your sins. remember once you are saved, your sins are wiped clean past present AND future. although it makes sense to pray, like any relationship, good communication is a must //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

How were you taught? You must ask to be forgiven. All will be forgiven, but you can not simply expect things to erase them selves.

Religion completely falls apart when mere mortals start arguing the best way to kiss the said gods ***.

Religion works best when kept in its purest form, the idea that one must live well or they will be punished in the afterlife.

The more you look at it, the more it looks like another way of manipulating masses of people using fear.

exactly... you ask for jesus/god for forgiveness and to "wash away" your sins... you are saved from your sins past present and future. that moment you accept jesus in to your heart... all is forgiven.

of course you cant go along sinning constantly and expect everything to be good, if you truly have a relationship with god, then you have to make an effort to change, and NOT do the bad stuff...

that doesn't work either, cause then people start arguing what is good and good enough and what is bad and arcording to who that so and so is bad. it just leads to one big circle.

GOTTA READ THE BIBLE!!! the truth is there of course some things in the bible is so vague it can be strewn everywhichway....

im lackin on that

Religion is something that gives people purpose, and hope. W/O it people will go crazy because they can't give anything reason IMO. I for one don't believe because after researching so many different religions whos to say whos right. I just think people need something to believe in.

I will start off by saying that I am agnostic. I don't believe in god, but I understand why people do.
I was just reading the new accident thread, and came to the part where "god was watching him." If you really believe this, do you think god would have let this happen?

Let's say you are in New York, and you are about to get mugged, then shot and killed. If god were "watching" you, do you think he would let the bullet hit you? It should stop in mid-air right in front of you, right? or god wouldn't let the muggers gun work at all. Or god would smyte the mugger somehow before he even began?

basically, I want to know why you believe in god.

I don't believe in god because I have grown up being a very scientific person. I find an explanation for everything. The bible is a book of stories that have been translated over and over again, more than likely most of them are fables to begin with. Most people who claim that can change me just give up.

First off you are not agnostic if you do not believe in God. You are an atheist. Agnostic means that you don't believe that there is any way to know that there is a God. Atheism is believing that there is no God. Anyway, I can't believe I jumped in this thread this late, but I would like to answer your question.

You say that you are a very scientific person, and if you know anything about the beginning of the universe, you would see that there clearly is a God. Read a book called "The Fingerprint of God" by Hugh Ross, you will not be disappointed. Also, a good book is "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. If you want to read great books about God, read C.S. Lewis, he was an atheist most of his life, until God convinced otherwise.

The mere fact that everyone has a concept inside them of good and evil proves the existence of God. If there was not a God, then we are just animals walking around, and our life is pointless and has no meaning to it. Therefore, if I were to kill you, it wouldn't matter, someone would replace you eventually, no one would care. But would you let me kill you? NO, because you truly believe that it is wrong and you truly value you your life for what it is. So why do we think that we have somewhat importance? Because that is how God made us, in His image.

I could go on forever talking about stuff but I would like to address your question about "God watching him".

The fact is, there is sin in the world. Does God like it? NO. It was brought into this world during the beginning of Adam and Eve. The Bible says, however, that God does not know evil. Evil is in the world because of the devil and because of us humans. We are naturally sinful. Therre is spiritual warfare going on, even in my life, it is a constant battle between my flesh and the Holy Spirit that lives within me. God just allows sin to go on during the time being, if he wanted to, he could stop it, however, he will when the time comes. That is, the creation of the new earth and the new heavens where there will be no more sin.

Anyway, why do I believe in God? I got saved last year, so I have been a "Christian"(a term that is very misunderstood in our society today) for a little over a year now. I believe that God is sovereign and in control of everything. I believe that it is God who changes hearts and that we do not choose God on our own. I am basically Calvinistic in my views.
