Do we need high priced subs

So I was at my neighbors house today while he was installing his subs..all he had was a hifonics brutus and two L7 10's and it was loud for what it was..makes me wonder why we all feel the need to buy high price subs

You must have never heard real nasty 10s. Or good sounding subs that get loud.

every car has different accoustics and sound different with different spl levels. Those 10s have the cone area close to 12s so if you are comparing them to general mainstream subs, of course they get louder. those subs are overpriced as well costing into the 300s new. Do a direct swap with a 200 dollar sub with proper motorforce and proper enclosure, you will notice better low end and louder overall.

Well it all depends on the power you have on tap. Getting the use out of that woofer. Sometimes buying a high powered driver that can take a ton a power when you only have 2000-2500 isnt the best idea.

I concur there are several factors involved. Stack that up against some gear here and you would understand. Or you could just go to a show and see what the difference is. I had a couple of MTX Jackhammers on a 500 rms Kenwood and it was loud for what it was. Does it compare to what I run now LOFL yeah not even fkin close.

L7's are not crappy subs, they actually perform well in a proper enclosure. With that said, experienced installers can make powerbass sound like Sundown.

Honda Civics can smoke a Lamborghini, if the Civic was put together by a experienced mechanic. Which car would you take?

Yes through enclosure design and vehicle loading, you can refine a sub. However you can only refine a lump of poo ever so much.

Most here would say sundown. But on the street most cannot tell the difference and will not fork over the extra $$ for the sundown. I was running a single custom designed 15" with a sundown 3k, played deep and smooth. Buddy of mine will tell you all day everyday that his pair of 12" L7's played better on 1200 watts. There is the problem, taste. Preference and miseducation or misunderstanding. It goes boom boom then it's all good
