Do these 6x9s need an amp or is the HU enough?

Hey,

I have a pair of Pioneer TS-A6962 in my car, I know they arent that good but it was a gift. I currently have them running off my HU (CDA-9883) Which I believe puts out like 18W RMS or something like that. The 6x9s can take 40W RMS. If I were to run a small amp to them would it sound a lot better? Is it worth it?

I also have an older pair of Pioneer 6.5s similiar to these in the front that are also running off the HU, they could probably go to the amp aswell.

Will I hear a big difference between the 18W RMS from my HU and the 40 or so I would need from an amp?

Thanks

An external amp is always the best option since you lower the distortion levels up to max RMS output unlike about 95% of HU's. But, HU power will do the job for those if you don't have a habit of turning up your HU past about 75-80% of max volume.
