Do subs worsen your hearing?

well i thought i was losing hearing but i went to ear doctor and in an entire year my ears have changed "mechanically" but its "so small its not noticeable"

(" " = doctors words) and this is good considering I had a skin graph on my ear drum cuz water ate a hole in my ear drum...ive always had bad hearing in my right ear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Where is Jack Frost with psychoacoustics?

Yes, your ears will get damaged. had systems for 3 years, now it sounds like the **** television is on all the time (the screen noise, not the audio)- and when it really is- it drives me freaking nuts.

I would answer your question, but my subs hit so hard I am now crosseyed.

I have had a system in every car I have owned since I was 16(now 25). I have a constant ringing in my ears, all the time. I used to be big into SPL, 2 15" Orions, ported at 35hz on 1200w( old setup). Now I am more into SQ, 1 Type R on 400w sealed, and CDT comps on 200w. I thought my system sounded like crap, but the guy at an audio shop here said it was awesome. I had my hearing checked, the doctor said I could hear very little past 15k hz, so loud subs do damage your ears.

i had a sub in my eclipse hatch back in the day. and a sub in a small hatch will mos def mess up your hearing. now i have a sedan with a sub in the trunk. not as loud. but since im older not really into the thumping. more into hearing the quality of the music!

listen.

any loud noises (over whatever Db) will damage your hearing. someone clapping your ears will damage your hearing. somone shuving a screwdriver in your ear will damage your hearing.

what makes you think speakers are some kind of magical device that we can hear - yet playing them super loud does not effect us?

ever get out of the car\concert\wherever and have 'ringing' in your ears? yes, my friend had a band, and i used to practice with them, when we were finished, my ears would ring for hours.

now they have a slight ring in them permanently.

this is damaged hearing.

so bump responsably... its not cool to have this problem - even though its not too bad for me yet.
