Phoenix Gold's LPL44 - What is it?

I finally got my hands on a PG T1200.1. I've been reading about the LPL knob PG makes and can't quite figure out what it does. The name suggests either it adjusts the crossover frequency/slope(which seems kinda silly) or it is a remote gain that boost ALL frequencies being played when the amp is in LP mode. Is this worth the ~$25 ebay price tag or is it just another woofer-cooker knob?

But it isn't a 1 frequency bass boost like the run-of-the-mill remote gain knobs,right?
