Do speakers need breaking in?

I am wondering is all speakers including subs need to be played at low volume for some time before you can turn them up and play them to their full potemtial?

Because if i am going to tune them i will have to turn them up.

My friend just told me about that this morning, he said to used the speaker for 2 weeks at 1/2 or 3/4 volume after that PUMP IT UP!!! is that true I have that same question ...

Arguing how you go about it is fine. Personally, I don't see much value in keeping it really low to begin with. At the same time I wouldn't slam them right off the bat. I will say this. Suspension and such do change as "break-in" occurs. Even older speakers can experience this. Case in point, as I was putting things together, I ran my 880PRS with all stock speakers for a while. You could easily tell that after a few weeks the speakers seemed to be able to handle more and performed better in general after being pushed harder by the 880 than stock, but keeping within limits. It was just that those limits increased.

My memphis subs wouldnt break in at even 1/2 normal volume. Played em 2 weeks like that. Cranked it up and in 2 days they sounded beautiful. Nowadays I like starting them at low volumes then moving up to heat the coil slowly...

Here is another question for you guys to chew on.

If its about 30 degrees outside and your car is outside and you hop in for the first time that day should you let your subs warm up as you would your car? Or can you just blast that shit right from the start?
