Do speakers and subs need to be broken in?

Subwoofers do not need to be broken in.... they simply loosen up over time and become less stiff, this can help them to sound alittle better and play alittle lower. Just set the gain to clean power and go hammer

Some subs have a break -in period.
Op, you don't gotta do a thing with that Rockville sub....go ham!!
THanks! I will haha

Cars don't have to be broken in unless they're bought new out of 3 feet of snow to warmer climates. Subs on the other hand probably should be flexed moderately for a few days. Don't crank above 17 for the first couple weeks and you'll be alright.

I thank you for your advice regarding the subs:) However I respectfully dissagree about the cars not needing breaking in!

He's correct. Brand new vehicles with 0 to very few miles on it need breaking in. A used car doesn't, because it's already been done for you. I think 500 or 5000 miles is what I remember for breaking in an engine. Long distances 8 hours+ for example, you def wanna give the engine time to getting used to the heat.

funny. i wonder why the big engines in the marine field don't need break in?

Subwoofer "break in" is a myth started by a few unscrupulous companies as a way to weasel out of warranty repairs on poorly built products. From my experience if the glue is dried your sub is ready for a beating. If it breaks out of the gate, it was built wrong or you're abusing it to a point where it would have broken regardless of what superstitious ritual you performed first.

The softening of the parts largely happens very quickly then continues gradually for the life of the speaker. Typically the change in compliance changes specs favorably for music listening, but I have found it's far less dramatic than people claim.
