Do most amps "whine" when starting them up in the cold?

Just a curious observation. My amp (soundstream pca2000D) whines like a mother when it dips into the cold weather, when it starts up. My txa 1000D's used to do the same but even worse. But my visonik 4000D never did at all, but I dont think I had it for cold weather.

Just kind of annoying to always have to listen to that for a minute when you get in the car.....

Common problem?

whine?

Doesn't sound right to me. Amp should be nearly silent unless you're playing something. Hot, cold, rainy, snowy or whatever.

I read on termpro somewhere that amps can whine when you're clipping them or you don't have the proper electrical to run the amplifier. As to the validity of those claims, I are not sure.

Ok, so WHINE wasnt the right term, it just makes noise when it turns on, for about a minute, sounds like your turning on something that is ******* up power.

Hell, I'll take a video later, to hard to explain the pitch of the noise

You might get some noise when you turn on your car while its trying to recharge the battery. I get some alternator whine whenever i run the system with the car off for liek a minute until the battery is fully charged again.

That is the amp's way of saying: "Shіt, it's cold out here!"

All kidding aside, the amp shouldn't be making any noise....

ETA: I wonder if it is possible that an internal relay is sticking in the cold?

That's not true. Torrids in amps can whine. My friend's Soundstream reference does it. You can barely hear it with the music all the way down, but it's still there. Sometimes it happens and it's abnormal, but it doesn't hurt anything.

I have a txa 1000d that does it aswell. its just the little fan in it that does it. seen several others have same issue with them. Once the fan gets going good it quits. Dont know about the sound stream though.

I think that it is highly likely that the torrid could be making a humming sound in the Reference (ETA and other amps). After all, it is a transformer and I am certain that almost everyone here has heard a transformer hum.

Additinally, no need to reference "max" anything as those specs are useless. Most of know how to look at specs for a given speaker, amp, HU, etc...

You don't need two amps. The speakers come with crossovers to help protect the tweeters.

Perhaps you changed something without mentioning it here? Maybe a loose turn on line? I dunno man...but we'll take it. Hopefully it keeps working. 👍
