Do I need a new set up?

I have 1200.1 Kicker Amp = 1200 RMS 2400 Peak with Dual 12" Kicker Comp R subs that peak power at 3200 and RMS at 1600. I have a 1 Farad Capacitor. I also have Kicker KS68 6x8s in all 4 doors.

The best buy guy told me to upgrade my alternator, but other people have told me to put in another battery.

What do I do to keep my car from killing itself.

second battery, also check your sub wiring, you may need to change the subs from 1 ohm to 4 ohm, as the 1200.1 drain the pwr bigtime at 1ohm

What size power cable are you using and what sort of battery?

A second battery is a good idea but you have to have good wiring, regardless of how many batteries you have.

- Sell that cap - It's utterly useless. A Good run of 0/1 gauge as well as your big 3 upgraded with 0/1 gauge and the biggest AGM battery you can fit under the hood and you will be fine

ideally, you'd want the alternator if you ever plan on getting a bigger system later down the road, but budget wise, a 2nd battery would be a cheaper fix to stabilize your voltages.

Also, look into Converting that capacitor you have into a tazer, its a much better use for it rather than car audio.

the first i would do is get a volt meter and report back what voltage you are at.

zero gage wiring ran back to a 2nd high performance/car audio bat possibly upgrade the one under the hood as well.

dont need a new alt at all...

get rid of the capacitor, that 1 farad is not really doing anything, its starving your amp
