Well, in MOST siruations u wont, but have u looked into doing the BIG 3 mod to the car's electrical system? Its not tooo hard. BTW, does it dimm now?

i have a 74 vw bug... it has stock electrical sistem..... but it no dims

upgrade the alt... 74 bugs comes stock with a 50 amp alt... i highly doubt its stock but the replacement alts are also 50 anp (duralast -Autozone) with that amount of power i highly doubt you'll be able to achieve anywhere near 800 watts rms... more like 450 tops, even if your battery can supply the power you will still be in the dark once it is drained... if you intend on keeping your 74 bug for a while UPGRADE THE ALTERNATOR, you will love it more, the car will love you more, your amp will love you more, and your music will love you more.. so all in all... replace the alt and you shall be loved

i have 2 12's and a 800 watt amp as well.. my dodge as a 136 amp alternater stock.. my headlights down dim, but when hard bass hits, i sometimes only for a INSTANT see a small fluctuation int the dash ligfhts.. like i said they dont dim, the just flutuate slightly instantly.. in this case, do i need a cap?? if so, how big, and where to hide it in the limited space of a x cab truck..

I don't know what you're running for your front stage for power, but it sounds like your charging system is up to snuff.
