Do I have enough power??

I'm putting a set of JL ZR650-CSI's in my 370z, no rear speakers, and a JL 10w6v2 in a sealed box. SQ is my priority for this system.

I currently already own a JL 300/2 amp and a small pioneer amp that is rated 40w x 2 RMS, though this might be underrated some.

I could just bridge the JL amp for the sub, and run the components off the pioneer amp at no additional cost to me, but do you think the components are getting enough power?

Do you think it is worth the additional cost to add a JL 500/1 for the sub and use the 300/2 for the components? Doing that would add much more power to the fronts, which i'm wondering if that would result in better midbass, and much more power to the sub, beyond what is even spec'd as optimal, not that I think its too much.

But its either 380 watts total system, or 800 watts total system, quite a difference, and then I have to be concerned with if a 4 gauge power wire will be enough, will i need a capacitor, etc.

Any opinions on if you think its worth the cost and effort to add the JL 500/1 or will the resulting difference be minimal? SQ is the main goal.

you'r fine on the 4g and no need for a cap with that sq setup

The 500/1 would put you right in the optimum level for the W6v2.

175w RMS I believe.

I say the 300/2 would be perfect on your fronts. If you can afford the 500/1 I would run it. But dont forget Install will mean more then power.

You could run the Pioneer and spend the extra on sound deading. This will help your midbass alot.

The JL components say they're rated at something like 25 to 175 watts RMS. They don't give a real good rating on exactly how much watts they're rated, like one single number at which they should be powered. I'm guessing the Pioneer amp is likely putting out 50 or higher watts in reality.

The 10w6v2 is listed at optimal around 350 watts.

I actually don't want to deaden too much. I've done this in previous cars and deadened the hell out of the door, but i really don't want the added weight on this car. So I will do as little deadening as I can to get them sounding good. Well a roll of RAAMmat is about 22 pounds, and I used a few rolls in my old car, I can't remember if it was 2 or 3. I'm sure most of that was in the doors.

I'll use some, I guess I can live with 20 pounds or less gain in the whole vehicle. I just can no longer subscribe to the "deaden everything whether it needs it or not" mentality.

My suggestion would be for the OP to try what he has and see if it is enough. If it is, then no more money needs to be spent. If it isn't, well, only then should he worry about purchasing another amp.

The only thing that I would be concerned about is the Pioneer amp. Some are decent amplifiers that will produce rated power whereas others are IC amps that produce no more power than your run of the mill, aftermarket head unit.

Yeah I realized I can just hook up what I have and see how it works, but it would be more convenient to install it all at once :-/ regardless yeah you're now making me nervous about the pioneer. I can tell you I had a 3-way set of boston pro's in my old car and I had taken the JL 300/2 out once and temporarily used the pioneer and i could not even hardly tell any difference. Well, as long as it isn't one of those Wally World specials that says 40 + 40 MAX and is the size of a pack of smokes, you may be ok.
