Distortion at low volume

Hello, I have a Performance Teknique ICBM-772 two channel amp powering two Pioneer 4 ohm speakers per channel. Speakers are connected in parallel. I have isolated the problem to the left side of the amp. The problem is distortion (sounds very scratchy and weak) at low volume. The right channel sounds fine. The problem seems to disappear after the amp has been running for a while. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks.

No expert here, but it sounds like a bad output transistor. I have a stereo home audio receiver with a burned up transistor (accidentally shorted it) which behaves exactly like this.
