distortion at high frequency and volume

me and req were listening to his new horns and we didnt have any mid or sub bass elements installed and we highpassed the horns at 800 hz and didn't do any equalizing at all and we turned it up and they got really loud and me and req experienced distortion in the sounds that we recieved from the horns and we didnt think it was the horns actually distorting and instead believed that it was basically our ears distorting instead because the horns were so loud so we came here to ask and see what you guys think like whether it could have been the horns distorting or if it is possible that it was our ears distorting due to the music being so loud.

I guess it depends on what type of "distortion" you were hearing.

Horns sound pretty horrible without any mids to fill in the rest of the frequency range. So, that may have been part of the problem.

And yes, the louder the sound, the less accurate your hearing becomes. So the output may have been at such a level that your ears were not accurately hearing it.
