Discover Credit Card offer

Then they need to fix their irresponsibility, not feed their irresponsibility. Get off your ***** and get a credit card and f****** pay it and build your credit. You're not a bunch of 14 year olds being told by your dad to do some bullshit you don't want to do (mow the lawn or whatever). Or maybe you are a bunch of 14 year olds, in which case get a credit card in 4 years.
I have an amazing credit score and more than enough credit to borrow any amount possible. I think you are taking this too seriously. I received the Discover application in the mail a few days ago and they have good rates, not just for balance transfers, and reasonable customer service which will workk with you if anything happens. I think it's a great first card for people, but credit cards are by no means a way to prove financial responsibility.

They do ask SSN, but any site/company dealing with your credit does, because your credit is linked to your SSN... which is actually illegal since SSN is not allowed to be used for identification, yet it is. There's a sloooooow push to disassociate SSNs with things they shouldn't be associated with, but it will be a while for credit since it is so deeply ingrained. In the meantime, they cannot look up your credit without your SSN.
I edited it before you posted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/suave.gif.858fc102f7646e678ee8af7e1fbc41d1.gif

Yep. 25 all right. Call someone who is giving you honest advice a jackass, and refuse to do something just because someone has advised you to do so.
When you turn 18 mentally, go ahead and get that credit card.
You're not giving advice... You are basically insisting everyone should get a credit card. Which is not very good advice for people who dont want/need a credit card.

Do you ever want to finance a car, house, boat or anything else large? Do you understand how credit is built? Credit is especially tight in our economy. A lot of people starting off now can't even get a credit card other than a secured credit card which is a bunch of BS (fortunately I've got good credit - started when I was 18!) but it's how it is. It's especially tough to finance a car or house if you don't have really good credit these days.

If you really think I was being a jackass about it then I think you were reading my posts in too serious a way. If you think it really matters to me whether you get a credit card, then you would be mistaken. But do I recommend it? Yes, I do. However, don't call me a jackass.

Yes, I understand how credit works. But, that doesnt mean everyone should run out and get a credit card this second. You're freaking out about credit cards. I see where the "rage" in your screen name comes from. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I agree with Dragon to a point.....
I agree that everyone needs credit because without it you will never be able to finance anything. But, running out and getting a credit card isn't right for everyone. Some people prefer not to spend beyond their means, even if it builds credit.

Maybe email updates but you can uncheck that box in user settings iirc. It's fairly accurate, a real cr gives more specific info though. But it's free and is close enough to get a good baseline.

By law everyone get's 1 free "real" credit report per year from the 3 major credit joint's. Might check into that aswell.

you can build credit many different ways. get utilities in your name. I have been told that completing a cell phone contract will do good things for your credit but it has yet to appear on mine. I was 26 and had to get my Mom to cosign for a $6K loan when I bought a motorcycle. I had the cash in bank to buy it out right. My buddy cosigned on my car. Those are the only 2 times that I have tried to barrow money and I have found a way to do it. Thank God that I have good people that trust me. My local bank is a small independant that I can get what I want from but they don't report good credit on bad. This keeps business for them. IF you make a habit of only dealing with them you will only have credit with them. The advantage is it was a 15 minute process to get approved for the loan to by a house. The loan officer has the ablity to aprove a loan. When time is of the essents and it is a race to get the money for a house. Somethimes a sell says first $XXXXX dollars gets it. You have a big advantage when you can get approved for a loan over the phone if you or your parents are in good standing with the bank.

Does that CreditKarma site really work? I wont get any unexpected BS from entering my info? lol
For what it's worth, I've been a member there for 2-3 years and either have never gotten spam from them or my Gmail spam filter has taken care of it. I do check my Gmail spam folder from time to time and I've never noticed anything that looked like it would be caused by or related to CreditKarma. I get maybe 1-2 credit card offers per year in the mail and those are usually from Southwest... because I fly Southwest.

It's a cool site because it tells you your score (only from TransUnion) as often as you want (say monthly) and can track it as a graph, and it can suggest ways to improve it, and it can estimate what doing certain things such as closing an account or opening account or paying off debt will do to your credit. It can also suggest credit cards good for your specific credit score, should you ever change your mind about one.

Apparently I have a "thin file" which means not enough credit for them to tell me my score. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Maybe I DO need a credit card. Lol

i had my credit card for a month swiped it for almost $900 for the holidays i had the money to pay it but decided to use the CC to start working on my credit so i paid half of it this month and then going to pay the rest off within the next 2 months. Also i am making payment for loans i had for school does that help out with credit?

Yes, as long as you're making your payments on time and not keeping the credit card maxed out. It sounds like you're using it responsibly and that will be a positive on your credit. The longer the account is open, the better it will look. Having a balance on it is fine, as long as it's not too high relative to your credit limit.
