Dilemma.......I need help....

Here goes.......I'm currently downsizing my system from 2 subs to 1 so I can save a little space and tone it down since I've got a baby coming. First, I'm wondering if there is going to be any real audible difference between a 12 and a 15 and if so what is the difference, assuming they are the same sub, in optimum enclosures, and getting recommended power? Second, should I keep one of my Type-X's or should I go with something like a RE SX or Fi Q? Even though I'm going to one sub, I still want good SQL.....thanks in advance.

I dont think you would be able to tell a difference between a 12 or 15 if they are recieving the same power and in the proper enclosure.

I know either one would be still be loud but would a 12 get as low as a 15? Or would a 15 sound as good as a 12?

Yes with the right box the 12 can get as low as a 15 and as loud as a 15. I usually run a 15 if im doing a single sub setup.

I'm kinda leaning toward a 15 but in the near future I may be trading the truck in on a car and wonder about trunk space. I'm thinking about a RE SX.....

The diameter of the sub has little to do with how accurate it will be or how low it can play. Both in the corrrect eclosure, the 15" will have the output advantage due to more cone area.

You will have to decide what you want your system to be.

My friend went from a 12 Type R on 1000w to a 15R. The difference was night and day in output. The 12 did hit the lows better for some reason but I would partially blame that on enclosure setup.

Stick with the 15" for output sake. You won't regret it.

Sell both Alpine's and get something new, change is always fun in subs.
