Digital Designs DD3512d experience

Oh Oh Oh...
I'm considering purchasing a DD3512d or a SI Mag 12 and running it in a 2 cu. ft. enclosure tuned between 28-33Hz.

http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/caraudio/woofers.asp?series=3500d

Does anyone have any experience with this sub? I have 1200 watts to play with.

I like clean high impact sound. Not quite a SQ guy, not a SPL guy either. I like to be able to hear (and feel) all of the music.

Is the optional carbon fiber dust cap just for cosmetics or does it serve a function?

Thanks

the cf dustcap is for reinforcment if i believe. try going to ddaudio.com and click on the sub in the pic, it will take you to thier forum, and you can look around to make sure.

you would probly be very happy with either one, i had a audioque hd which is alot like the 95xx, and im very happy with it. btw i had a xxx before this and the gain in spl over comes the loss in sq

I found this paragraph about the carbon fiber dust caps on Digital Designs website.

DUST CAPS
You may notice a lot of carbon fiber on our drivers. Carbon fiber/epoxy sandwiches are extremely strong for their weight. When bonded to our synthetic cones they form an incredibly strong yet light moving system. These caps actually work as a cone wall stiffening disk capable of creating world record SPL numbers without flexing, keeping the pressure in the cabin under immense loads. These hand-laminated disks consist of layers of carbon and glass fibers in a heat cured epoxy resin. These disks are expensive to produce but the enhancement to the performance and cosmetic appeal are worth it.
It is around a $50 upgrade if you can purchase direct from DD. Does anyone have any experience using the cabon fiber dust cap?

You dont need to purchase it. Unless you want it to look better. Daily driving, you wont need it.

They were more on the loud side to me when I had them. Still sounded great.

However, from what I have gathered, the Mag is one insane sub. I would get that if you have the cash for it, without a doubt in my mind.

I am still very seriously considering purchasing a Mag. I've already PM'd Showrides and have been given a quote.

I'm danm close to making a purchase. I will buy something this Thursday either way.

If you can wait a day or two my mag will be coming in and ill have it installed in a 1.5cu ft sealed box with 500 watts and will be writing a review on it. theres also some reviews already on the Mags.
