Differences between class D and AB

I know people including myself generally use class D amps for bass and get good sound and efficiency. What is the major difference in bass between using a class D and class A/B amplifier bridged? How does the bass sound different?

A/B amplifiers have a much clearer sound from them. People who switch from Class D to A/B of the same power sometimes say they can hear a difference. But I don't think there's too much of a difference, like there would be running your upper-range off a class D and switching to A/B.

a lot cleaner sound from class ab...playing around with my class AB Kicker XS50 and a Memphis M Class 1100 D....the Kicker was louder on the termlab with about half the power of the memphis...though by ear I couldn't tell which was louder...I could tell it was cleaner sound in the Kicker....I was using two DD 2510's at 1ohm mono

The main difference is efficiency. Topologies have never been proven to sound different than one another.

If you search, you will find numerous threads on this very subject that have been beaten to death.

If Class A/B is "cleaner" tell us what it is about D that makes them "dirty." What do you hear in the signal. Tell us in the most objective way possible.
