Did Big 3 Plus New Batterys Alt Not Cuttin It

how do you know how much power your amp will draw
As I'm prolly late, but meh, better late then never right?

Current = Power (watts) ÷ Voltage

Example: (2000 watts ÷ 14.4V = 139 amps of current draw) or (2000 watts ÷ 11.6V = 172 amps of current draw)

everybody with there 2kw plus systems and no voltage drop....on a 90 amp alt....my stock is 136 amp i have 2400w rms and if i turn the volume up the volts go down like i don't even have an alternator at all....

Hell, even with my 1kwrms with a 100amp alt (i think) i notice volt drops

how or why does this happen....i know thats kinda of an answer that can't be answered easily....but i do only have 2/3 of the big three done, but the voltage drop happens so fast i don't think the finishing it is going to make that much of a difference (even tho im going to finish it)

Lights dimming are not necessarily a bad thing, only when it is severe. It's a perfect indicator but a fair indicator that voltage is dropping. Best is to check what your voltage is at the amps, then you will know whether or not your amps are safe.

if your gain isn't set right on your amp it is drawing more from the battery...correct?

Still working on doing the big 3.. But watch this

Also, this amp is hardly turned up.. running at 2 ohm, maybe 1/4th of the way up on the gain.

Sony explodes? Ewww but ya i use to have big time voltage drops with my old system and i was only runnin 550rms from each amp.. soo 1100rms.. That was just 4guage and wally world bat.. I upgraded to 0guage did the big 3 and got a yellowtop and blam no drops.. upgraded to 2k rms and still not bad drops from 14.7 to 13.9 at idle SLAMMIN... Big 3 makes a big difference guys and yes doing 2 out of 3 does limits it.. do the third only 1 more wire.. What left? guessin ground chassis to engine block? Your grounds are more important than your pos..

I was doing some testing the other day with a new box and noticed some good voltage drops at idle, granted it was about 4000 watts, but it was dropping from 14.7 to 12.3. I have 0 ga power and ground running from the front battery to the rear one, so I added a 0 ga ground to the body at the rear battery and the voltage drops got better. They went from 14.6 to 13.0.

I had the same bad voltage drops before when I had only a 0 ga ground from the rear batt to body. I got rid of that ground and added the run of 0 ga ground from front to back and when I'm boomin at 2200 watts there's no drops, it stays over 14 volts at all times. But that extra ground did help when I was pushing it up around the 4000 watt area.

Ya memphis there you go...

Blazer you grounded to the body not your frame? If you ground to frame its a big difference well it was for me anyways

Well being that the body is sitting on the frame it's easier to attach a ground to the body, rather than cut a hole in the body so I can attach a wire to the actual frame beneath it. The last thing I need is another hole for possible air leaks.
