Did Big 3 Plus New Batterys Alt Not Cuttin It

Alright been workin on my system for a few days now getting everything perfect. Ran all 0guage i put a yellow top up front and did the big 3 the other night. Started up really fast big difference really nice idle at 14.7. Got dark called it a night. Next morning hooked up a odyssey680 bat in back then hooked up my amp(hifonics bxi2008d) and started my truck up... Both bats idle at 13.4... so i check everything out and i notice my alt smelling hot so i shut up and feel it.. Hella hot.. So i took it out and just running the yellowtop with big 3 idle 14.7 again and doesnt drop below 14.1 runnin that hifonics @ 1ohm 2k RMS on 4 cvrs. So all you guys that think you need a back battery YOU DONT if only runnin like 2k or even 3k rms but if you go beyond that get a HO altenator and runnin 2 or more bats...

SO NOW MY QUESTION When i do upgrade and run another bxi2008d probably I will wanna run my back battery so i need a HO alternator and was wondering if anyone knows what will fit my truck. Its a 1997 Honda Passport same as a Isuzu Rodeo. My buddy things a GM alt will fit but kinda tight area and its at the bottem.. Not really fun..

 
I know this want answer you question, but how many amps is your alternator? And yes alot of people do overkill there systems on here. hell 75 % of them do, thats why I say take the advice, dont listen to it.

 
nobody said u needed a new alt and batts for 2k lol...

the reason its suggested is that people have a tendency to upgrade, and its easier to get it out of the way at the beginning.

 
No duh did you read my thing? It said the yellowtop and big 3 is fine for that amp but WHEN i upgrade i need a HO alt to run my back bat jeez why people post dumb crap after not reading...

Oh and Ezellz its just a like 60-70amp alt stock

 
thats good to hear i was gonna get a alt for my car but since theres so many mixed reviews

about them i'll just do the big 3. and see if i can squeeze a HC1800 under the hood.

Ummmm...ya you do... I have a 3K amp, and I needed to upgrade my alt + I have a bluetop, and my lights still dim a little bit, AND big 3 done

Pretty sure the bluetop is cranking... not deep cycle.

But I'll digress...

As for the HO, I know there's a site... But I can't think of it. I'm sorry.

You choose which make/model your car is and they quote you for it.

They ship it and it SHOULD be a perfect fit.

But, if you don't know, HO alts only work efficiently at higher RPMs. At idle I think it is more or less equal to a stock alt... something like that.

 
Ya umm i think my yellowtop was a group 24 or 34 i can check for sure later...

As for blue top i asked optima if its as strong as a yellowtop and they said its not cuz i coulda got a bluetop for cheap off buddy too but i wanted stronger.

And as for pics i plan on taking some tomorrow cuz when i was searching for big 3 pics i couldnt find jack... Ill get some pics to you just gotta figure out how to post on here... You'll see that stock ground going down from your bat to the alt casing(engine block) then to the chassis. Hella little wire i know... But the wire going to chassis the bolt is too little to put 3 terminals on( I stripped it lol) So just put my stock ground back to the little bolt and did the 0guage with a bolt and nut threw the hole little farther back. Pretty easy but will take 2 people for that part. Ya ill pm you when i take pics...

so im getting a kinetik hc2400 in the rear and a new alt...

 
you shouldve bought the new alt in the beginning. a 1kw amp will draw more current than your alt puts out. my old zapco 850 would draw 80 amps on its own.

 
And you guys gotta remember upgrading to a HO alt its only HO when your rpms are high.. When your just at idle theres not much of a difference from the stock. But ya when you rev it up that HO alt pumpin some juice
