Diamond Crossover Settings (Dumb Q?)

Alright first of all i have a d5600.2 amp and cdt ef-61 comps. Everything is installed and i was adjusting everything, but i cant figure something out. The consensus around here is to set the hp crossover for the mids around 80Hz +/- until it sounds right. But the crossover control on my diamond goes from 1.5kHz to 15kHz . how do kHz relate to Hz? Thanks

You can look at it like this i guess.

1 hz 2 hz, 999hz, and then i think its like 1khz, and so on....(i think)

however, khz are your HIGHER frequencies, like voice and other high pitch stuff...

what xover you using, cuz the cdt ef-61 comps are cadence right?

as for mid's being 80hz or so you are correct....sounds as your xover is more towards tweeters?

I am using the supplied passive crossover. i was talking about the crossover on the amp though. i didnt think it was right that it only went down to 1.5kHz. there are 3 crossovers on the amp- hp(1.5kHz-15kHz) lp(50hz-5khz) subsonic(15hz-1.5kHz) would i want to use the subsonic crossover? it baffles me that the crossovers on this aren't like all other amps.

now that i think of it, i am almost positive that i am going to have to use the subsonic filter. it says in my manual: "pushing this button in (subsonic filter) turns the highpass crossover into a subsonnic filter dividing the frequency by 10. leaving this button "out" uses the highpass filter normally.

well i emailed diamond audio tech this question and here is their response:

"Hello John,

You will want the high-pass filter turned on.

Make sure that the x10 button is not pushed in.

Start with the high-pass crossover about a ¼ turn up.

Listen to some music that you are very familiar with that has a clean signal.

“Please, nothing burned off a computer download”

Make sure everything is set flat on the head-unit, (no bass boost, treble boost, loudnesss, etc.)

Set the volume to ¾ way volume to set the gains & the high pass crossover.

This will be a great start on setting up your system.

Thank you,

-Coop"

Now this further confuses me. also, when i use the subsonic filter, it starts at 15hz, and if you turn it about 1/8' clockwise it is 163hz! Maybe this amp will end up on ebay... i dont know...

For the HPF on that amp there is a pushbutton for "subsonic"/"X10". Make sure that that button is pushed in. There is also a button next to it that says HPF on/off. Make sure that is pressed in to select on. Turn it all the way to the left, then back off a quarter turn as coop said to get the right frequency, then adjust it to your liking from there.

The high pass and subsonic knob is the same one(you just select high pass or subsonic) Subsonic will allow you high pass at a more lower frequency. You will need it somewhere inbetween the first and second notch. Dont you speakers have an xover?

Anyways Im pretty sure thats how it works. Havent had a time to play with these, or anything for that matter. No system or alarm in my new truck yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.

my speakers have a passive crossover, but you cant adjust anything on it, it just splits the frequencies. i think ive got it now- with the subsonic filter turned on, and the knob between the 1st and 2nd notch like bimma said. thanks alot

so you are saying to turn on both subsonic and hpf?

You cant have em both on. By pushing the same button in and out you decide which you are using.

I=not the smartest when its comes to car audio, so I may be wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. However arent the passive xover many speakers come with, made so the speakers only play the frequency they can play well(like high pass the lowest it can go and low pass the at the highest it can go while still sounding right)?

also, you could turn all the filters off and use the filters on your Head Unit so you can control from your seat. That's what I do.
that would prolly be easiest. Its not as simple at turn the knob to 80hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif, because there is no 80hz label.
