Diamond Audio crossover questions....

Im new here but looked around the forums latley..

anyways, my question is....

i have a Diamond audio Hex s6.0m which is a add on to the s5 or s4 components and i wanted to use it as a two way component insted off a 3-way component...

I wanted to know if i could just buy some diamond crossovers and tweeters and hook it up to the s6.0m would that work as having a regular hex s6 components...

Is the s6.0m just the mid out of the s6 component set, or was it designed differently?

If it's just the mid out of the s6 setup then yes.

If the s6.0m was designed strictly for midbass duty, then it may not perform well in the midrange area.

Get a hold of Diamond and ask.

you can see its about the same as a s6 set but made for mid-bass....

Those specs are pretty worthless for really telling anything about the speakers.

And it may be. But, it also might not.

The s6.0mx3 might simply be the s6 mid with a crossover that you can add to the s4 and s5 components. In which case yes, all you would need is the crossover designed for 2-way operation and the tweeter and you would effectively have an s6 comp set.

Or, they might have taken a stock s6 mid and modified to perform better/strictly in the midbass region. In which case, they likely made some sacrifices to the midrange performance (since in a 3-way setup, it would not have to reproduce the midrange frequencies) and as such it would not be wise to run it in a 2-way setup and performance wise it would not be equivalent to the s6 setup.

Contact Diamond and ask them. This should be a simple yes/no question for them.

ok thanks...

i sent a message to them....

i can see that the Frequency Responce is different compared to the S600... like 42-400 for the s6mx3 and the s6 is 42-25....

Well, the FR is probably for the "set" for the s6 components, meaning they can cover the range from 42hz to 25khz (both the mid and tweeter).

And the 400hz cutoff for the FR of the midbass add-on kit might simply be the crossover point, not meaning that the driver will not perform well above 400hz.

yup.....

I bought the s6mx's for $70 and just buy some tweeters and crossovers for like $100 its cheaper than buying a new setup... for now its all good... thanks for your help....
