Depth of sealed box question

Is there a general rule of thumb of how deep a sealed box should be? What I mean is, if my sub has a vented pole, and the mounting depth is 6.5", how deep should I make the box?

The reason I'm wondering is I'm trying to make a box as slim as possible for my next install. I would like to keep it under 10" as much as possible, and the smaller the better.

2 inches would be safe, so it sounds like you have plenty of room.
