im looking into getting a laptop right now for college next year when i go to UNI. I was originally planning on buying something for ~1g. But i think i found an amazing deal!

Dell Vostro 1500

15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display with TrueLife™

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)

2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM

160GB 5400RPM Hard Drive

8X CD/DVD+RW Read and Burn CD and DVD( i have a new Samsung 20x DVD ext. )burner

Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery(7hr30min use time)

...all for $829

is this a good deal, or what? anything you guys would upgrade and get, or any other better buys?

i didnt use any coupons, it was originally $579 but i went from core 2 duo 1.4ghz 800mhz fsb to the core 2 duo 2.2ghz @800mhz fsb, and changed from vista buisness->vista home along with a 9cell from a 6cell batt..

What ram options did they give you?

If you can downgrade ram to 1 gig, you might be able to save some more by doing that and just picking up 2gigs from somewhere else, I got a 2gig kit for $35.

Other then that, looks pretty good for the price. I have the T7500 on my Inspiron 1420, and it's a great cpu.

thanks, but it only gave me the option of 2gig at 667mhz...i can only upgrade on it.. otherwise yea 3gig would be tight, but i think 2 is a good *** deal.. bump

Well I believe Dell still has the $300 off $1199+ Inspiron builds, so you might be able to build an Inspiron 1520 with a few better features, and it'll run you ~$900 or so. Mine came out to ~$1000 after tax, and it's a 1420 (which is more expensive then the 1520), with the T7500 cpu, 1gig ram (upgraded to 4gig via newegg), 120gb 5400rpm hdd, high res 14.2" screen, Nvidia GS 8400m vid card, wireless n card, bluetooth, and Vista premium.

At Xmas the Vostro 1000 was 399. Very similar specs, just Win Xp and an X2 AMD chip.

I would wait for a sale for 1. and also, find a friend or family member that works for a bigger company and ask if they have an EPP code. This will give you a percentage off based on how much business they do with Dell.

Decent laptop though. I just think a tad too pricey.

No AMD chip is comparable to the T7500...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

This is a good deal, as the processor alone is anywhere from $150-300 additional, depending on the configuration.

As for the EPP code, sometimes you get good deals through EPP, but usually they are equal to whatever codes you can get for Inspirons, which are basically the same machines as Vostro's.

Don't buy a Vostro. Stay away from Vista. Try your best to get XP if at all possible. Sometimes you're able to get a decent deal at the Dell Outlet.

My 2 cents.

Nothing wrong with Vostro's, they are the same thing as Inspirons, just in plain black.

Also, Vista isn't bad at all if you're running sufficient ram and have tweaked it around a decent amount.

I run Vista Premium with a lot of the 'features' and bloatware removed, and it runs great on 4gig ram (recognizes 3.5).

You know I originally had problems on Vista, but it's not half bad after I got the kinks out of it (it wouldn't detect the video card, but now it works fine).

It runs great. XP is cool, but after getting used to vista I am starting to like it more and more.

Like always, technology just needs to be refined.

That being said, i'm not a very demanding user, the most i do would be video editing besides surfin the web, music (yahoo music, itunes, and wmp/zune player since my dad has a zune).

The graphical stuff is kinda nice.
