deh p860mp users. Q about auto alignment.

Andre,

I just unhooked the power wire for my amps at the battery. Seemed easier than messing with the filters.

Try it, if you dont like it, you can always reset it.

? How is the calibration possible without the amps turn on? (sorry if i'm not getting what you're saying)

Also what was your experience with it? Did you like it?

i just left everything like i normally have it.

crossed over between mids and sub at 80 and let the auto calibration do it's thing

as long as the filters on the amp are set so that they dont interfere it doesnt matter what they are set on. if that makes any sense.

Thanks (zach too) i'm out to give it a try! (crossing fingers) I just hope it's not going to mess up gains levels, just don't want to blow up anything lol. Will report back in a bit.

In pro mode or standard? you dont have to turn off amp filters. I have done it all ways, this is my second 860. I have never liked what the auto with the mic did. best thing is to get the deck and do the work with your ears. guess you allready have the deck. just watch your sub gains. I had an issue with that and the deck told me something was wrong, should have said what an idiot.

Standart mode. Well after trying it with the mic in different spots, i'm not sure what to make out of the results. After the first test, the soundstage sounded great but my sub level was down to -16! (from 0) Basicaly no sub output at all. I put it back to 0 but now i don't know if my gains are all screwed up?

The deck is supose to figure all that for you. Like I said you can use the auto but you will always have to adjust for your ears, what you like. I wasnt impressed with either the 860 or my eclipse 8454 when using the auto. always needed tweaking for what I wanted to hear.

I get it. I'll see what it sounds like after more tweaking. Should i consider re-adjusting my gains after that?

Everything is relative. the deck has gains, the amps have gains. What I try to do is keep the amps gain as low as I can and adjust with the head unit. the reason I do that is so when I am driving I can do some on the fly adjustments for whatever music I am listening to. Most of the time its just sub level. but the last time I was running this deck it was active and I will be again soon. If it sounds good and the amp gains are lower then i think thats good.

When I did mine I did'nt like the sound putting out of my front stage. Just did'nt sound right, maybe I did something wrong. I finally got the sound back I am happy with (mostly) after a couple days of messing around with it.

I still think I lost something in my fronts, it's just not quiet the same sound that I had. Yep the curiosity got the best of me. I wish I would have never done it.

Good luck. Later.....

You can always turn it off;) For some reason i got the best results with the mic fixed on my rearview mirror.

Hey guys, i'm tempted to give it a try but reading the manual about doing it properly...I'm a little loss. Do i have to really turn of LPF off my amps like it says?

Anybody tried it? Am i wasting my time?

EDIT: I'm talking about using the supplied microphone method.

Ever try setting it manually?? I never have trusted any of Pioneer's auto features. Auto-eq, Auto time alignment were just a waste of time and gave marginal at best results. Just get a tape measure and run it from your head to the right speaker and enter it in the deck and the same for the left side. The deck will then delay the speakers that need delay.
