Decisions.. 3 12's sealed?

Well ive been looking a subs for my second vehicle, 01 monte carlo.. I wanted to go with 1 10 ported for wow factor but finding a 10 then im interested in is rare so i moved on to 12's.. After searching forums and CL I found a deal on some old 12'' JL w6's. I like these cause they dont weight hardly anything and they are pretty "decent'' sounding. Im not sure yet on an exact amp but i do know it will be 1000-1500w at 1 ohm, therefore i can wire all three subs a 1 ohm being they are D6 coils.

What type of ''sound" difference would there be between doing 2 of them ported at 1.5 ohm vs 3 sealed at 1 ohm?

Also, for instance say the 2 subs PORTED get 500w a peice.. say the 3 subs SEALED get 500w apeice. What type's of sound differences would there be?

2 12's have the potential of getting louder and definitely getting lower, but some people prefer the sound of sealed subs. personally i would go ported as 2 12's is cheaper, and i prefer low end. if you build the box correctly you can still have some of that "punchy" bass you get with a sealed box

I'd think that you would have enough space in your trunk to port all three in that Monte.

I would do 2 ported all day long over 3 sealed. But I agree with ram.

He will only sell all 3.. So the 2 ported will infact get "louder" and more powerful on the low end?.. but will the 3 sealed be more musical? Drum kicks and such?

One of these days i will test my theories of ported vs sealed. I might just do it with my brahma and these JL's if i end up with them which its looking like i will.. I wish i would find a whole lot of sealed boxes and start testing. Ive read about 7 pages of the ported and sealed box thread and my mind is racing haha. Be honest with you i havent even heard a sealed box in along time so i dont even know what they sound like anymore..

Ive never really dealt with 3 subs before.. seems kind of strange to be talking about it, specially ported.

id go three ported in the trunk. if you are dissatisfied, make a sealed box then try them out int the sealed box. as far as which will be more musical? i would say if you looking for musical, or something better for fast bass/ metal etc. i would go sealed.

if your looking for "loud" i would go ported and tune low.

Ideally id like to run a new style RE XXX but some of the members on this forum dont seem like they are to hard up to sell theirs even though they list them for sale..
