Decent sounding system with $500?

I would really like to replace the worn out factory system in my 99 F150 supercab. My budget is $500 for everything, I know that isn't much, but its all I can afford right now. According to Crutchfield, I have 6x8 in each location. I would like to just drop something in if at all possible, but I am willing to make modifications if need be, as long as they are within reason.

I listen to different kinds of music, and just want it to sound good. Loud is nice, but quality comes first if I had to choose.

I would be very grateful if anyone could give me some help choosing what parts to get. Head unit, speakers, and whatever else I need.

Thanks alot.

one of these:

two sets of these:

theres a headunit and all around speakers for about $250. you lookin for a substage as well?

Amp:

Sub and amp: $250

Headunit and Speakers: $235

thats up to $485

Then, ya need a wiring kit for the sub amp:

And it'll cost ya $30 to build your own subwoofer box (tons of info on this website for that)

So, $485 plus a $15 wiring kit and $30 in box materials is $530 for an all around good system!

Tah dah!

of course, there are another million different combinations you can design yourself lol.

if your looking for subs, sonicelectronix currently has a buy one get one free deal for new 2007 kicker subs.

Probably going to have to say no to subs, only because I don't see where I could put them. Losing the backseat or any space there is not really an option.

I have no clue how to choose a headunit / amp / speakers that will work well together.

My requirements are really flexible. All I need is an 3.5mm aux in so I can connect my mp3 player.

if your not going subs, do what twisted said an get a nice set of comps with somewhat decent midbass.

What i would do is get some 6.5" comps in the front and a 2ch amp for them (like twisted said). then, get a decent headunit over the top of that, preferably with some kind of equalizer. i wouldnt worry too much about the rear speakers. some cheap 6x8's running off the headunits internal amp would be dandy.

Could you recommend a set of comps / amp / headunit?

I was told by a friend to get infinity kappas, but then I did some reading and it seems that they are the wrong ohms? I didnt really understand that

I am sure that is good, I just worry about getting in over my head with trying to piece a system together from various parts. I am really, really new at this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Would anything from here be good to use?
