Debating Going Active Duty

computer science isnt going anywhere go to school for that for sure

even if it wasnt I wouldn't care to fight for our bs govt (no disrespect to those who do)

let me clear this up, i'm not in college, i'm still in highschool. i meant the stress of picking colleges, scholarships, etc. its not like i'm going to have a hard time getting into one or getting scholarships, just getting tired of it and thought a few years active could be fun and beneficial.
I plan on majoring in computer science.

If you stress picking which college your going to goto and how to pay for it, I would suggest not going in the military. You could try contacting an ROTC admissions officer and having a sitdown interview with them. I've talked to a few ROTC grad's and they all generally agree its pretty easy, you just have to have focus and willing to sacrifice partying every day to partying just on the weekends. I'm sure most of the active duty guys can agree most ROTC butter bar's are generally clueless about anything that has to do with the real world (that is outside of a textbook). Plus if you don't like it, you just quit, once you've enlisted theres no "quitting."

But if you want to go the enlisted route its not a dead end like others make it out to be. There are a variety of programs designed to help you develop and flourish your military career. Some of the best officer's I've known were prior enlisted. Some of the ROTC admissions officer's I've spoken with were jumping through hoops to try and get me admitted into the ROTC program(they absolutely love prior military in ROTC). You can try and finish your degree while active duty then goto OTS/OCS, or be admitted into programs that transfer you to a ROTC detachment and you goto school as a fulltime job.

Well the army may be the only really secure job left anymore, i don't even know if there will be anything for me when i get out of college

Hell nah to the Army or Marines.....Air Force or Navy at the least. I'm in Iraq right now too....
