DD-1 Better than O-Scopes?

if it has steve meade's initials on it i'd buy it in a heartbeat. The man obviously knows what he's talking about and he holds at least 7 world records. And he has a youtube channel so he must be legit.

Heck, steve meade is like the ANT of car audio for crying out loud. Just get the DD1 you won't be disappointed.

Okay, I guess I am a nuthugger. I have the DD1 and love it. My friend set his car with a o'scope, so for shiz and giggles we redid it with the DD1 and the settings were damned near identical. The only difference is the time it took him to set the gains using an o'scope and the 2 minutes it took me with the DD1. Hate all you want, I see it as a time saving install tool. Just my .02

the DD-1 is like an idiot light in a car.

an oscilloscope is like a gauge in the car.

one tells you that something is wrong.

the other tells you that and everything else.

i prefer gauges and scopes.

i don't trust idiot lights.

Seen more then a couple people say they blew their subs but couldn't understand why since they set the gains with the DD-1.
Truth.

I have check amp gains with a TPI440 after they were set with a DD-1 and it was still clipping when the DD-1 said it wasn't.

On the other hand, I did another car and it was set very conservative with the DD-1 saying it was the "max" with out clipping....yet it was no where close to that.

To be fair, that was/is the only two times I have messed with a DD-1. I don't think anyone has one local to me.....

Your going to blow your subs if you set it at the -15 tone or even the -10db and play nothing but bass heavy tracks all day. Or cant maintain good voltage to the amp. it would be the same way with a scope.

You can/will damage product with any tools that you do not understand how to use properly.

I do understand how to use them though. I'm speaking of what I have read over time..as well as the two chances I had to actually have one in my hand. I was personally not impressed what so ever. I can honestly say I think the DSO was closer to being right the DD-1 was. Both were off compared to a TPI440. Which was off when compared to a B&K lol.

The problem is, almost nobody understands what they are doing. For instance, in TwistedChild420's vids where he is setting his friend's gain he is using the track that is like -10db and saying "now there is no clipping whatsoever." Ummmm when you play a song recorded closer to 0db there will be clipping. When you play a tone you will clip like mad. Yes... there is clipping. The DD-1 will tell you if the waveform does not match what it should at those 2 specific frequencies. That's all it does. Here's an example of what I mean. "put it on track 7"

So if you've set your gain to JUST not clip at -10db source material, when you play ANYTHING above that source material you ARE clipping. For instance if your music you play is then at -5db, you can see that it is trying to increase the amplitude of the wave +5db above what the equipment is now capable of. Remember that +3db is the same as asking your amp to double the power it is putting out.

That is the exact issue, market it to those who don't know any better.

I use the -5 and adjust it from there. You can tell when its clipping bad by watching the voltmeter. Its great for setting the HU though
