is it okay to run my dc audio lvl 3s at half power being 300 rms instead of 600???

If you had 600 going to them and your volume knob was half way up, how much power would they get?

You won't hurt them, they just won't be as loud as if they were getting 600

where abouts should the gain be on the amp i have it at about half way

The gain isn't like a volume knob, it's dependent on what your headunit's preout voltage is. Do you own or have access to a multimeter (DMM)?

my head unit is a alpine cda-9885 im looking in the manual now, my dad has a multimeter not sure if it has the right settings tho

one more thing lol, what should my filter frequency be set at it goes from 50 to 500

Your headunit has 4v preouts, so you would take the DMM, set it to measure AC volts, play a -0dB 50 or 60hz test tone and put the leads of the multimeter on the speaker outputs. Slowly turn up your gain until the voltage reads sqrt(600w * R) where R is the resistance, in ohms, that your subs are wired to (if you have 2 dual 4 subs you can wire them to 4 or 1)

The low pass filter (LPF) should be set to what you think sounds best. Depending on what your box is tuned to you may want to put it as high as 100hz or as low as 60hz. Most people set it to around 80
