So 3 cubes for a pair of 10"s would be good? How much port would you suggest for them?

And i heard a HDC3 15 today and 2000 watts....impressive. I think i've decided to go with 2 12"s myself now

Two rules of Audio-

1) Loud is not pretty

2) Loud is not Small

go with a pair of lvl 4 10s with a good sized port and IMO you will meet your needs of volume and quality. I've given a few different lvl 4s upwards of 2k a piece with positive results, and my own personal lvl 4 almost 3k daily with more positive results. 1.5ish cuft per 10 @32hz sounds like a winner to me.

Small = LOUD......with enough power and it can be daily

I ran my 12Rs in 1.5cu per and a 40.1 @ .5 tuned to 35hz....amazing on lows and took power very well.

Just gotta tune a lil lower than normal when you make it smaller....general rule
