The processing might not be as good but it beats the hell out of what's there now: nothing! For the difference in cost, I'll **** up the slightly degraded capability. I really only wanted the basic crossover and time alignment as a stop gap until I could afford the outboard processor, but I was left with an all or nothing situation and a bad taste in my mouth.
As far as using 11 year old gear, if you look at it as one sale, then just quit now. That kind of shortsightedness has already doomed the industry. I wouldn't be able to compete in the interim while upgrading the system to include new amps without going to the Pro class where I don't belong. You want to attract new blood. You do that with old blood. Which is better from an industry growth standpoint: 1 old guy upgrading his stuff in order to compete or that same old guy attracting 5-10 new consumers without upgrading his stuff? The result in my case will be neither because I won't compete, how is that good for the growth of the industry?
