DB6500's sound flat and harsh?

I really don't know the point of this thread, but my Polk db6500 comps are really harsh on the highs. Maybe my ears are sensitive, but I always have to turn my treble down to -4 to compensate for it, and this basically ruins the soundstage from my rear speakers. The bass is almost nonexistent. I can turn the bass up to +7 on my CDE-102 and still no big improvement. They are being fed 100wrms with the gains set to about 1/3 power. Maybe it's time for an upgrade?
