DAYTON HO 12 dvc.

your gonna get good balanced sound and wide range of frequencies, listening to rock, metal, jazz, electro, hip hop, country will all sound nice, it wont do hair tricks or flex 2 inches on your glass windows(but there will be flex depending on your box quality) but it'll sound hella nice with a decent punch, i'm using one of those as a home theatre sub and it kicks the crap out of my polk psw 505 12" in SQ and loudness.

I just bought the 8" HF.

HO is high output

HF is high fidelity aka faithful sound reproduction aka sound quality

But I'm sure with Dayton either one is going to sound pretty dang good

Dayton HO is generally the better of the 2 for a car install as the box size for the HF gets a little big for what you get back. Best way to run the Daytons is a small ported box tuned low. That helps deal with the lowish xmax and the frequency response doesn't really take a hit, IMO, it'll sound a bit more natural, unless your in a very small car.

Take a look at this review with pictures and all:

Regarding the box setup, most people who use Dayton HO subs, like them because they get good qtc in a small sealed box, which is useful in a lot of car installs. However, I remember that some people did try Dayton HO subs in ported box (as well as IDQ v3), and they liked it a lot too. It's up to you. Building a good ported box is more hassle, but one clear benefit is that you can get away with just one sub, instead of two, if you care about not adding too much weight to your car.
