ok the other day i noticed one of my subs was maing a very low rattling noise on some songs. it still pounds pretty good. im hoping its something very minor.

heres some pics

i cant see anything wrong with the sub but then again i dont know exactly what im looking for

tia

You look for any sign that that black ribbed thingy(the spider) has come unglued from the rest of the woofer, carefull move the cone back and forth to see if there are any cracks or seperations in the area where the spider connects to the voice coil.

Heres is a picture of the parts of the woofer

Here is a voice coil and spider

These things are bonded using Cyanoacrylates, a very strong glue. You want to find any places that the glue may have seperated or cracked.

so far I can't see anything wrong from your pictures though.

Another possiblity-

If the speaker wire was really long inside the box and got looped up into the frame of the woofer it could rattle against the cone.

the sub looks brand new. i moved the cone and didnt see any seperation.

i swithched the subs around in the box. its still making the rattling noise but now it seems like its quiter.

i did verify that the busted sub did come from cc. ive just got to convince this guy at cc to fill out the appropriate paperwork.

this sucks

seems kinda doubtful.

you think if i took it to a local audio shop they could test it or repair it??

like i said its gotta be something very minor cause the sub still gets loud.

just a cracked basket? Well if u cant get it replaced i reconmend JB Weld //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Your box can also easily be the source of the rattling

yea but i swithched the subs around in the box and the same sub is making the same noise. for some reason its a little quiter after i moved it.

i was gonna put it in my old sealed pre-fab box but i figured its gotta be the sub cause i can hear it rattling when i put my ear to it. no matter which hole the sub is mounted in

heres a pic

wire it to 4 ohms, keep gains low, dont turn the volume up too far and youll be fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

I ran my 2000SPL with 800 watts free-air and it didnt hurt it or anything... of course I didn't blast the volume or anything

ok just to make sure it wasent my box i threw the sub in question into my old box. its .60ft3 sealed. it sounds like *** its making the rattling noise more in the sealed box.

so i guess without a doubt the **** thing is blown.

i cant believe my luck

im gonna head up to cc in a min and see about getting it repaired

how do you think it would sound with one sub hooked up and another one there to take up a little room and seal the other hole??

btw the box is 2ft3 ported to 35 hz
