I be damn, I had it right the whole time. Sort of. Right after Kyle Larson was basically banned from NASCAR I said that Rick Hendrick needed to scoop him up and put him in the 48 asap, and so he did. Hendrick us bringing back the 5 car with Larson driving. I f*cking love it. Also announced Jimmie Johnson will drive all Indy road course races next year AND the IMSA Rolex 24 at Daytona along with Chase Elliott.

So Alex Bowman, who took over driving the 88 for JR, will now drive the 48. Kyle Larson will take over duties driving the 88, but it's been renumbered the 5. I love it.
