Dac in headunit or phone?

Just trying to get some clarification. I have a pioneer Dmh-2660 nex and an iPhone 11. I thought that I read somewhere that if you used your phone ,NOT via Bluetooth ,but by cable that it bypasses the dac and equalization on the phone and uses your headunit for these functions. Can anyone tell me if this is correct or what is the best way to configure my setup for best sound quality?
