Cutting aero port help

I have 2 4" aero ports in a 3.1 cube box... to get a 38 hz tuning it says

Straight Length Port required 12.20

Flare Length Port required 13.20

Do I put the mounting flare end on it, then measure from that down 13" and cut off the excess, or just measure 13 inches on the straight tube without flares on...

You should consider about half of the flared portion of the port still part of the length...so measure the total length of the flared portion/2 and add it into the equation and then add in the tube part and make it 13ish" total (though Id cut it a bit long...38Hz is too high for my taste)

EDIT: actually there's no need to devide the ports flared section by two..because there is a flare on the other end so just adding in the total length of one would compensate for both

I believe they say only .5" of the flare ends isn't useable port, just make the whole thing measure the desired length + 1 inch (assuming you have flares on both ends)

PSP port length needs to be 1" longer than a normal tube port length.

psp says themselves to make their port 1" longer from flare to flare than a normal tube port.

I believe the directions that comes with the port states to cut the pipe 5" less then your desired final length.

So with both flares on, it should be a complete length of 14 inches?

Use the "flared port length" on the psp site. In your example, it was 13.2" long. So the total length of the port, with both flares attached needs to be 13.2" from end to end.

If you want it tuned to 38, the total length needs to be 11.9 inches.

Hey gary, I got them cut in our woodshop, they are an overall length of 14 and 3/8ths iirc , looks like its a little long still... But I did notice an increase in overall loudness and it still hits the lows very well... I will try to get back in there and cut em down to 12 inches...

If the overall length is 14 you are tuned to 35 hz, Thats were I wanted the tuning. Thats an overall good freq. for a lot of music. If you want 38 hz, overall needs to be a little under 12 inches total. Anywhere from 11.5 to 12 will be good. Keep the pieces that you cut off the tubes... you can use them to tune it up higher if you ever want to compete.
