I'm new to the forums. I've been a car and home audio fanatic for over 2 decades. I'm a mechanical engineer with a sound understanding of vibration and dynamic systems. I've designed custom subwoofer boxes for myself and friends that gave solid and powerful sound. I'm wanting get my services out there and an willing to offer my services for free for the first few people interested. I will take subwoofer specifications, box size constraints (trunk size, other installation constraints), and desired look. In return I'd provide a PDF drawing that includes size and shape of each box part (sides, supports, ports) and assembly instructions. The box will be tuned for your sub and desired frequency (if ported box). I have done sealed and ported (single or multiple port) boxes. I've never done a bandpass box but am confident I can handle it.

So in summary, is that something this forum is interested in? I have a family and full time job so I can't guarantee immediate results, likely it will take me a few days to a week for each design. Let me know what you all think. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Welcome!

There are a few active designers and builders here already, but there's always a need for them.

There's an enclosure design subforum here. Chances are if people are looking for a design they'll make a thread there or in General Discussion (though realistically people post **** all over the place). You might also want to post this in the enclosure subforum for said people to see, rather than in Subwoofers.

Consider designing some standard sized boxes for some if the more popular sub lines so people can see what they'd be getting. You can poke around here to see what people ask about, but the Soundqubed HDS300 and the Sundown Audio SA lines come to mind.

There's a bunch of people on car audio advice facebook page that desperately need designs. I cant accommodate them all over there... need backup lol.

I'm looking for a simple box design. Single 12" in a trailblazer, I'm going at build but no so much at math. Hit me up

Can you PM me the subwoofer specs? Do you have any size constraints? Desired look to the box? Sealed or ported? Did you want the amp to mount to the box? Securing features to mount it to the vehicle?

Do you/can you design using autocad or sketchup for modeling? Also which type of designs can you do? Ported, 4ths, 6ths, 8th's?

Edit... nvm, read the full first post. I got ahead of myself. lol

Sometimes you dont need those fancy programs to get a design done. Its just nice to see a 3d model but same results can be had with pen and paper or ms paint.

With 4ths, and 6ths you'll need advanced enclosure softwareor years of building and testing with different vehicles and knowing the cabin gain and peak frequencies and other acoustical aspects..

I use software that allows me to input the cabin dimensions, shape, and materials - it's used for precision home theater designs but it works very well for car audio designs as well, I've had great luck with it. I'm by no means an expert, but it doesn't take years of building to get it right imo... I have built designs for people that have by far exceeded designs they have had done by designers who have quite the reputation. A lot of it IS trial and error but you can narrow most of it down with software so the trial and error doesn't eat up a lot of time/designs, etc.

I tend to use autocad for all of my designs... using inventor I can calculate the best port placement for airflow, map weaker areas of the box for bracing, etc. I tend to use it because it's quick, you can get a ton of info and it's clean.

FYI my designs will likely be in SolidEdge for the short term. I'm hoping to be able to buy a SolidWorks license with analysis soon. I do engineering consulting as a side business.

I enjoy designing as a past time but it's mostly for myself and a few other guys that are local to me. You can make a pretty healthy profit doing consulting on the side. I do 3d modeling on the side and it makes quite a bit, surprisingly.

I've no doubt. It's my hobby and career for a reason.
