cu. ft. variences on sealed boxes

i'm making a sealed truck box for a 12" Cerwin Vega Stealth S12. they call for 1.0cu. ft., but i don't have that kind of room. i have read in lots of places that sealed inclosure's are more tolerant with size variance's. so does anyone know if there is a set rule that you can't exceed. like if it asks for 1.0 you can go as low as .75? what i'm am doing is just about that, but i'm hoping that some fill will effectively bring it back closer to 1.0. i'm not going contest hoping and i don't need the perfect sound. i'm just trying to get some thump back after someone decided they wanted my 6" powered bazooka more than me.

Going smaller will yield a more aggressive and punchy sound but will lessen low end extension. If you start going to small, you will start to gain a peak in the upper bass frequencies which will make the low end extension be even less potent. Polyfill will help bring the alignment a little lower but it won't be a huge difference.
