CT Sound Tropo needs a ton of power?

So I haven't had a system in years and the itch hit me so I decided to upgrade my f-150. I bought the 5.25 tropo coaxials because they seemed to get good reviews and you cant beat the price. I also picked up a zrx616.4 to power it I figured id rather over power the speakers than clip them. I finished my install and at low volume they sound great but when I try to crank them up they sound like they are clipping, which is odd because they are 55 watt rms and the amp is 75 rms. So I installed an old alpine I had that I knew was a good amp. Its only 45 watts rms and that amp sounded even worse. So finally I installed a old crossfire to them they are now getting 150 watts rms and they sound great with tons of volume. Problem is the old crossfire doesnt have a hpf plus I need a 4 channel. So I was wondering do you guys have experience with the tropos being power hungry speakers?

My other question is I love my volume so I have to come up with a solution that looks like im either buying a new amp or new speakers. What do you guys think I should do? From the gear I bought you can see I am on a budget. I was looking at possibly a MB Quart XA1-1100.5 but I am not sure that will have much more power than the zues I already have. Im not really sure what speakers to get I used to love mb quart but I am not sure if they are what they used to be. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks

Thanks for the info. I actually got a lot of sound out of them it just required a ton of power. I feel like those speakers cant be beat for the price its just a shame how inefficient they are.

I decided to keep the amp and get different speakers. I went with JBL GTO609c components and I am more than thrilled. Believe it or not the Ct sounds had better mid bass but these speakers are better in every other category. Now all I have to do is figure out where to hide my old phoenix gold sub and I will be good to go.

Those JBL components are really great. Better low end can be achieved with proper door/deadening.

Yeah as much as I love my ford you can actually see the door skin move when you slam the door so im sure deadening would make a huge difference.

I gambled on those jbl's since ive been out of it for a long time so I didnt really know what to look at. My last set of nice speakers were mb quart psd 216's but from what I saw they aren't really good anymore.
